Your Delaware Symphony Orchestra joined the July 4th party in downtown Wilmington Saturday. City officials estimated more than 20,000 people gathered at Tubman-Garrett Park and venues nearby to watch the fireworks, and to hear the DSO and the Delaware Valley Chorale perform patriotic music, which was broadcast statewide on WDEL-AM and worldwide on WDEL.com. Check out the review -- "Maestro Amado Unites a City Under the Stars" -- at the new Delaware Arts Info blog.

We're having another raffle this Saturday for our friends downstate. During our free SALUTE TO THE AMERICAN HERO concert at the Joshua M. Freeman Center for The Arts, we'll give away tickets to WRITTEN ON THE WINDS, our October 29 concert at the Schwartz Center in Dover.

The DSO ventures downstate to Sussex County for a patriotic celebration. Heroism is the theme, and the program includes music about our fighting men and women, from Sousa marches to "Victory at Sea." We'll also hear classical favorites featured in classic cartoons.
The Freeman Center is four miles west of Fenwick Island, Delaware, at the intersection of Route 54 and Route 20. For more information visit www.freemanstage.org.

WE'RE THE BEST OF DELAWARE!
In the July issue of Delaware Today, the magazine's critics say:
The Delaware Symphony Orchestra and maestro David Amado are never anything short of marvelous. But the musicians' performances during two particular concerts this year--"The Music of Led Zeppelin" and "Bugs Bunny on Broadway"--demonstrated that they can let their hair down (and put their ears up) with the best.
The Best of Delaware 2009

This season's version of "Bugs Bunny on Broadway" is OZ WITH ORCHESTRA in January. For information on those concerts, visit www.desymphony.org.
And if you loved the guitar artistry of "The Music of Led Zeppelin," you'll want to hear mandolinist and composer Chris Thile of Nickel Creek in his new Mandolin Concerto in March. www.desymphony.org.
