TURN YOUR RADIO ON
Where else can you hear DSO guest artists? On A Prairie Home Companion! Last week's broadcast featured the Punch Brothers, including mandolinist and composer Chris Thile, who's with us at the Grand in March. And fiddler and crooner Andy Stein performed with Guy's All-Star Shoe Band; he's with us in March at the Grand and the Schwartz Center in Dover.
The streak continues -- this week, virtuoso guitarists the Assad Brothers are guests, along with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Sergio Assad composed Interchange, one of two concertos featured in last May's concert that will be on our forthcoming Telarc release with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. Check your local public radio station for broadcast information; in the Wilmington area, APHC airs on WHYY, 90.9 FM Saturday evening at 6 and Sunday afternoon at 2.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEW YEAR'S EVE?
Plenty of venues have booked bands for the final night of the year, but only the Grand Opera House has your DSO! Join Maestro David Amado for "Venice to Vienna," a fun-filled program of Italian opera favorites and classic Strauss waltzes and polkas. The show starts at 7:30, includes free Champagne and party favors at intermission, and will end in time for the fireworks over Rodney Square. Click here for tickets or call 800.37.GRAND.
SPEAKING OF VIENNA . . .
The Dec. 1 recital by David and Meredith Amado at the Hotel du Pont was a sold-out smash. Our Classical Series continues Jan. 8 and 9 at 8 p.m. with another musical power couple, Curtis Institute President and violist Roberto Diaz and prize-winning violinist Elissa Lee Koljonen. They'll perform Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante on a program of Viennese masters that also includes a rarely-performed Beethoven overture and Haydn's final symphony. Get your tickets here or at 800.37.GRAND, and join us for a pre-concert talk with Maestro Amado and the DSO's Mark Mobley at 7 each night.
